Meet Jim - a Suffolk Punch X Labrador who’s waiting to peer over your shoulder and follow you around as you go about your day.
He should have been named Clifford - he’s basically a giant, orange dog.
The essentials:
10yo, 16.2hh (not officially measured), Suffolk Punch x Clydie x TB. He is a chonky boi. No registration. Barefoot. Up to date with feet, teeth, vaccines and worming. He catches you in the paddock and always wants to be in your pocket. Did we mention the Labrador part yet?
The education:
Jim has had intermittent work since he was broken in at 2 and then left to grow out until aged 7, when he was mainly ridden by a novice for plods in the arena and short trails. We are currently teaching him how to best use his body and to travel in a soft frame using his hindquarters. He moves off the leg reasonably well and will only get better with more work. He has always tried to please his rider and is very willing to learn. Jim has been out to local ag shows and horsemanship clinics without fuss. Floats every time easily - but you'll need a large float!
The temperament:
Labrador. Pretty quiet but will go when you ask. Brave on a trail and likes to lead. He's also been used for some lessons in our riding school. He's fine to pull out of the paddock and hop on after a break.
Suited to:
Anyone from a confident novice (that has regular coaching) upwards, but ideally someone that can continue his education. Jim has done some small jumps (which he's very enthusiastic about) but he’s no 1m horse. Basic dressage. He would suit an adult who wants a best friend in their pocket and to do a bit of everything. Dressage, pretty enough for the hunter ring, some fun show jumping, adult riding club, and trails.
Can come with bridle and fitted AP saddle for $500 extra.
