After five very special years together, we have made the difficult decision to find KC a new home. She has been a huge part of our lives and this is definitely not a sale we are taking lightly. She is only being offered for sale because her current 15-year-old rider has sadly outgrown her.

KC is a 14-year-old, 14.1hh chestnut Arabian x Riding Pony mare. She is athletic, intelligent, competitive and has a huge amount of personality. She is the sort of horse that you don't forget. She certainly knows her own mind and is not afraid to let you know what she thinks.

KC is not a quiet, push-button pony and we want to be completely honest about that. She is forward, sensitive and can get hot, particularly when she is excited or really enjoying herself. She is very responsive to her rider and is particularly sensitive to leg aids. She has a lovely soft mouth and is beautifully responsive when ridden by someone who understands her.

She is best suited to a confident rider who enjoys a forward and responsive horse. She needs a rider who is comfortable with a horse that has a bit of go and who understands that sensitive horses need consistency, confidence and clear communication.

In the right hands, KC is a very rewarding horse to ride.

She genuinely loves having a job and is competitive across a number of disciplines. She has consistently placed at Pony Club and has competed successfully in cross country and show jumping. She has established flying changes and has some lateral work established as well.

KC is athletic and forward-thinking and enjoys being challenged. She is not the type of horse who is happy just wandering around doing nothing. She likes to have a purpose and enjoys of her work.

She would suit someone wanting a competitive pony to continue with Pony Club, show jumping, cross country or further schooling. She has plenty of ability and, with the right rider, there is certainly more that could be developed.

She is currently ridden by a 15-year-old and has been a much-loved pony for the past five years. Her current rider has done a lot with her and knows her very well, which is one of the reasons finding the right home is so important to us.

Now for the honest part about KC.

She is very good at being a chestnut mare.

KC has a personality and she is not shy about showing it. She pulls faces, pins her ears, occasionally bites the air and can look like she is plotting something when she is actually perfectly happy. She has a very expressive face and seems to believe that every situation requires some form of commentary.

She is also quite dominant in the herd and knows exactly where she stands. She has been known to take an interest in other mares' foals and occasionally seems to think they are her responsibility.

She can take a little while to decide that she likes someone. KC is very much a one-person pony and she does not necessarily give her trust away immediately. She needs someone who is willing to spend the time getting to know her and building a relationship with her.

Once she trusts you, she forms an incredibly strong bond.

That is one of the things that makes her so special. She is not a pony that is going to be everyone's best friend on day one, but once you become her person, she really does give you her heart.

She is easy to float, wash, rug, clip, feed and handle. She is used to being handled regularly and is generally very good to have around.

She does, however, need someone who understands her personality and doesn't take every funny face or opinion personally. She is not nasty; she is simply a very expressive mare who likes to have her say.

We are looking for a knowledgeable and understanding home where her personality will be appreciated rather than treated as a problem.

KC is not suitable for a nervous or inexperienced rider. She needs a confident rider who is comfortable with a sensitive, forward horse and who can ride positively without becoming frustrated by her quirks.

She would suit someone who enjoys having a horse with a bit of character and who wants to build a genuine partnership rather than simply get on and ride.

We are not in a rush to sell her, and the home is far more important to us than the price.

After five years, we know KC very well and we know that she needs the right person. We would much rather wait for the right home than send her somewhere that isn't going to work for her.

Her next person needs to be confident, patient, consistent and willing to put the time into earning her trust. A good sense of humour would also be strongly recommended.

If you have experience with sensitive horses and enjoy a mare who has plenty of personality, KC could be a fantastic match.

She has talent, she has ability, she loves her work and, underneath all of the chestnut mare drama, she has a huge heart.

She will probably pull a face at you. She may pin her ears. She may tell you exactly what she thinks of your latest decision. But once she decides you're her person, you will have a very loyal and special horse.

KC is one of those horses that you have to get to know to truly appreciate. She isn't perfect, and we're not pretending she is. She has quirks and she needs the right rider, but for the right person those quirks are simply part of what makes her KC.

If you've ever looked at a horse and thought, "I quite like a bit of character," then she may be worth coming to meet.

KC knows her worth, and after five years of loving her, we know it too.
