"Sherry"

2019 SB Mare

Approx. 14.1HH

Colour: Bay

Sire: Boom Boom Hall

Dam: Melton Bonnie Jane

Freezebrand: S4190257

Microchip: 985100012144598

Registered: No

Education Level: Unbroken

Rider Suitability: N/A

Floating Requirements: Float & Truck

Disclosable Characteristics: Snotty, defensive behaviour at feed time. Will threaten to kick and, if not an experienced horse person, will line you up and expect her to have a go.

Not your typical Standy to look at! Good headed, no injuries/scars, well coated, easy to catch, OK paddocked on own or with a herd. Floats fine, now stands much better for farrier with no issue and has good tough hooves. Been on a 4-week cycle since I've owned her for the past 6 months. Wormed 2 weeks ago. Vaccination history unknown. Dental about 9–10 months ago apparently.

Before the last owner, a lady found Sherry in a paddock neglected and poor and rescued her. Unfortunately, that lady spoilt Sherry while trying to give lots of fussing and feed to pick her up and was way too soft with her. Having been starved, Sherry became very defensive over feed and the lady allowed herself to be pushed around. Sherry learnt to threaten, to the point Sherry can be a downright snotter at feed time and will try to kick out if you don't move around her correctly or threaten to interfere with her feed.

Her snotty behaviour does not make her suitable for inexperienced horse people, no beginners or novices. However, while caught she is good to do most things and is quiet, not timid or spooky, not anxious about her surroundings or interactions at all, but I keep a wary eye on her.

Too old and not in good health to be bothered with her antics and my partner is not a horseman, so I can't go away as he's not confident enough to feed her and keep out of her way.

Lady I bought her from had herself bought from the rescuer. She began groundwork with Sherry and was lightly breaking her in, had her up to saddled-up stage with no issues, sat on her a couple of times but did not get to ride her as she only had an open paddock and no round pen.

I would have finished breaking her in but, as mentioned, a bit past it now and dislike her attitude. Having said that, she is easy enough to work with, not scary at all, so someone competent shouldn't have any trouble finishing her starting.

She's been fully fed, rugged and cared for over 6 months now. Would have moved her on sooner, but the dreadful wet conditions haven't allowed me to try, but can't afford to keep her here any longer.

Current photo late arvo and looking furry and wintery. Better photos taken just over 2 weeks ago. Saddled photos were from last lady about 7 months ago.
