Midnite Hickory is a quality rising 5-year-old AQHA registered gelding standing approximately 15hh. Colour tested as a rare Smokey Black, he combines eye-catching looks with proven performance breeding, a kind temperament and a solid foundation, making him an exciting prospect for someone wanting to continue his education.

This is a genuine and reluctant sale. I had every intention of continuing his training myself; however, between running my own business, owning two horses and the limited access to western performance coaching and training in the Canberra region, I simply can’t give Hickory the consistent time and guidance he deserves. He is now at the stage where he would benefit from an experienced rider who can continue building on the foundation he already has and help him reach his full potential.

Hickory is by Lil Hollywood Jac and out of Chickasha Montana (by Acres Destiny). Hickory’s pedigree speaks for itself. His great-great grandsire is the legendary Doc’s Hickory, and Hickory’s dam is a 3/4 sister to Chickasha Hope, a mare well recognised within Australian cutting circles. Chickasha Hope has also produced quality performance horses, including Reysn Hope. While I can’t predict exactly which discipline Hickory will ultimately excel in, he certainly has the breeding behind him to become a quality western performance horse in the right hands.

Hickory is well suited for; Ranch, Ranch Versatility, Trail, Working Equitation and Reining. With proper and specific training he should excel in Working Cow Horse/Reined Cow Horse or Cutting.

Hickory has a lovely temperament and is genuinely enjoyable to own. He is a kind horse that likes people and has always been easy to have around. He is good to catch, lead, tie up, groom and wash, making him an uncomplicated horse to own.

Standing around 15hh with excellent conformation, Hickory is athletic without being overly hot or reactive. He moves freely with a beautiful comfortable trot and is exceptionally smooth to ride, making him an enjoyable horse to sit on.

Professionally, Hickory has had a thoughtful start to his education. He completed 10 weeks with a professional breaker before undertaking a further 12 weeks with a respected western trainer. Since then, he has attended five western clinics, gaining exposure to different environments, instructors, horses and livestock. These experiences have helped him become a confident and well-travelled young horse.

One of Hickory’s standout qualities is how well he travels. He loads and floats exceptionally well and has completed approximately 30 horse floating trips averaging 2-4 hours each way on his own and with about six trips of approximately 8-9 hours each way, also travelling on his own. Throughout these long journeys he has remained calm, relaxed and uncomplicated, making him an easy horse to transport to clinics, competitions or training.

As expected for his age, Hickory is still green. He is not a finished horse and is not being advertised as one. He has a solid foundation but now needs someone with the experience, consistency and time to continue his training and take him to the next level. For this reason, he is not suitable for beginners or nervous riders.

I believe Hickory would suit an experienced western rider or knowledgeable horse person looking for a quality young horse with excellent breeding and plenty of potential. Whether your interests lie in ranch riding, ranch versatility, pleasure, cow horse or another western discipline, Hickory offers an exciting blank canvas with a quality foundation already established.

Finding the right home is extremely important to me. This is not a decision I have made lightly, and I am under no pressure to sell quickly. I simply recognise that Hickory deserves someone who has both the time and access to ongoing coaching and training that will allow him to continue developing into the horse he is capable of becoming.

Hickory will also go to his new home with two winter rugs and two rain/mid-season rugs.
